Principal's Message 2/1/2010

I want to thank our entire school family for their concern for the emergency situation in Haiti. On Thursday, we held a dress-down day fundraiser for the students and $3,000 was raised for the relief efforts there. We will be sending the funds to ADRA to help them in purchasing the necessary supplies. Our students and parents are to be commended for the world community spirit that was demonstrated here.

Congratulations to Isabelle K for winning the 2009-2010 AWS Geography Bee. Mr. Ruff, a professor at SAU, served as the moderator for this event and all students in 5th-8th grade were present. Second place went to Geoffrey L. The classroom winners were Kristin M, Kurt K, Aiyana S, Ariana W, Mara M, Clayton N, and Shawn K.

Our kindergarten round up was a tremendous success on Friday. We had 36 potential new kindergarten students for 2010-2011 come and learn about our program. This is our highest attendance at the roundup in several year so if you are considering sending your child to AWS for kindergarten next year, you need to come and get the registration paperwork completed and turned in as soon as possible.

Today we opened up enrollment for the 2010-2011 school year and this year, for returning students, the process is on-line. Please go to the AWS website and click on the admissions tab and follow the directions listed there. Already we have had a number of applications completed on-line and we trust that this process will be more efficient and parent friendly then having everyone complete the paperwork in full each year. Please remember that in order to complete the process there is one paper that must be completed and signed for FERPA, Consent to Treat, etc. In addition $25 per student is the application fee which is due at that time as well. If you have any questions, do not hesitate to contact us for help.

Our Lady Rapid basketball teams continue to do very well in the ISC basketball season. Both girls’ teams are undefeated at this point at 4 wins and no loses – congratulations girls and coaches.
